Dr. Kathleen Seward

Before settling into a career in veterinary medicine, Kathleen studied and worked in a number of vocations. Her experience includes working as a family educator for abused and neglected youth, assistant teacher in special education, and owning and running her own home day care. However, it was not until she was given the opportunity to work as a veterinary technician, that she found her true calling.

Kathleen received a bachelors degree in zoology from Southern Illinois University and accepted a position with USDA’s Wildlife Services in Fort Collins, CO. While there, she completed her formal veterinary training at Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and has since continued her education to include certification in veterinary acupuncture.

Kathleen has enjoyed working as a mixed animal practitioner in Canon City, CO and as a small animal practitioner in Chicago, IL. and Evergreen, CO. Dr. Kathleen’s primary interests include small animal preventive medicine, emergency medicine and surgery as well as utilizing acupuncture as another means for pain management and healing in animals. By attending numerous continuing education courses and maintaining strong professional relationships with board-specialized veterinarians, she is able to provide the most current information and resources available to animal owners.

Though she gained valuable experience and treasures her past patients and their families, she is excited to call Gunnison her home. She has joined her husband Nate, who works as a conservation biologist for Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Gunnison. They share their busy lives with their four children, Keelin, Reilly, Rowan and Drayden, their dogs Tango and Aldo, and a horse named Duchess.

Kathleen has enjoyed becoming part of the Gunnison Valley community and getting to know everyone and their pets. She is currently accepting new clients. She continues to offer house call services for non-emergencies, home euthanasia, and acupuncture treatments for equine and small animal patients.
